  그냥 단순한 무협영화라고 생각하고 봤는 데.

  큰 감동을 받았다.

  우연히도 라스트 사무라이와 시대가 같은 영화를 이어서 보게 된 셈인데.

  사무라이의 몰락과 기개와 의리를 보여주는 영화다.

  한국 사람이라 약간 거부감이 있을 수도 있겠고 마초적인 영화일 수도 있지만

  끝까지 의리를 지키고 어쩔 수 없이 가족을 위해, 고향을 위해

  자신을 바치는 한 남자를 만날 수 있다.

  일본의 시골 동네지만 자신의 출신지에 자부심을 가지고 살고

  항상 겸손하면서 남을 돕고 감사할 줄 아는 주인공이다.

  일본 사람들은 정말 참신한 소재로 영화를 잘 만드는 것 같다.

  자신의 생각이 다른 사람들에게 숨김없이 broadcast되는 사토라레라는 걸 만들다니.

  영화 트루먼쇼처럼 자신만 그 사실을 모른다는 아주 재미있는 설정이다.

  하나의 도시 전체가 모두 그 사람을 위해서 움직인다니. 마치 티코 브라헤 같다.

  티코 브라헤의 천문관측을 돕기 위해 하나의 도시가 그를 위해 움직였다.

  그리고 다른 초능력자들처럼 상투적이지 않아서 좋다.

  보통 초능력자라면 남의 생각을 읽을 수 있는 사람 같은 게 흔히 생각나는 건데.

  하지만 "국가적 재산"이라면서 일종의 물건 취급해버리는 건 좀 슬픈 것 같다.

  물론 그냥 버려두는 것도 안 되지만.. 매우 일본적인 사고 방식인 듯 하다.

  탐 크루즈 주연의 영화이다.

  탐 크루즈가 남북전쟁의 전쟁영웅인데. (계급은 대위).

  전쟁 이후에 폐인생활을 한다. 전쟁 후유증에 시달리는 데.

  그것은 상관의 명령으로 인디언과의 싸움에서 무고한 민간인(어린이, 여자, 노인)을 학살 했기 때문이다.

  폐인이 되서 알콜중독자에다가 적은 월급으로 소총파는 회사의 판매원(or CF모델 쯤?)으로 일하다가

  쫓겨난다.

  하지만 그에게 새로운 기회가 주어지고 명치 유신시대의 일본으로 건너가 신식 일본군의 교관이 된다.

  추가적인 임무가 부여되어 사무라이(구식 일본군)를 제거하는 것이 새로운 임무가 되고

  훈련 안 된 군대로 무리하게 출전했다가 사무라이들에게 잡힌다.

  그는 결국 사무라이의 정신 세계에 동화되고 마지막 사무라이가 되어

  오히려 신식 군대와 싸우게 된다.

  탐 크루즈보다는 일본 사무라이 무사들이 훨씬 멋지고 카리스마 있게 나온다.

  말 위에서 긴 칼을 휘두르고 눈에 힘주고 아주 멋진 갑옷도 입었다.

  게임 철권(tekken) 분위기라고나 할까..

  이쁜 과부 여주인공도 나오는 데. 탐크루즈가 죽인 사무라이의 부인이다.

  처음에는 탐크루즈도 죄책감을 느끼고 여인도 복수하지 못해 매우 원통해 하는 데.

  나중에 친해지고 아마도 사랑하게 될듯..(영화가 그 전에 끝났다.)

  ----

  탐 크루즈가 일본인에 대해 말하는 부분에 이런 대사가 있다.

  "이들은 모두 이른 새벽에 일어나 각자 맡은 일을 찾아 최선을 다한다.
   매우 근면하고 나태한 모습은 전혀 찾아볼 수가 없다."

  ----

  목검으로 수련하는 장면에서 사무라이가 탐크루즈에게 이렇게 말한다.

  "마음을 비워(no mind), 넌 너무 많은 생각을 하고 있어. 주위의 구경꾼을 의식하고 적을 의식하고 있어. 아무것도 생각하지마."
